BIOS of Eric Wang and Emilia Diaz Delgado, performers for July 26 NFN LIVE Online

We promised to share some interesting bio "tidbits" from one of our
young award-winning performers for the Sunday July 26 concert!

Emilia Diaz Delgado writes:

"I am an 11-year-old guitarist, birder, and aspiring party entertainer, also talented at writing, crafts, imagination, and losing at solitaire (but since the game’s against myself I like to see losing as winning…)
I have the honor of studying at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Scott Cmiel, where I have performed in various recitals. I have also performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Sonora in Mexico, and in fundraising events and community concerts.
I have performed in masterclasses with Manuel Barrueco, Julian Gray, Smaro Gregoriadou, David Leisner, Joao Luiz, Michael Newman, Laura Oltman, Richard Savino, Christopher Stell, Meng Su, Ben Verdery, and Jason Vieaux.
I won second place in the San Francisco division of the CalASTA competition, and was honored to be chosen to perform in the NPR show, From The Top.
I enjoy: staring off into space at the most inconvenient times (Algebra?) and Harry Potter (reading in general…) I play guitar on my front porch once in a while, in firm belief that the birds sing along with me. I also enjoy interacting with all nature (not counting the Komodo dragons, of course.) I love having fun, playing games with my grandparents, and (in case you hadn’t figured this bit out) making jokes - and am currently learning how to blog without deleting all my posts."

We asked Emilia to explain why she suggested (and Eric agreed) to have the Children's Hospital as the beneficiary of her program with Eric. She answered, with (in our view) tremendous insight and awareness for an 11 year old:

"After the tragic suicide of Dr. Lorna M. Breen, who worked at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, I realized that this time is very stressful for doctors. I decided that streaming the concert and making it accessible to the doctors and nurses would be very powerful and motivating. I believe if Dr. Breen had had access to art in these times, her life would have had a very different ending.

This hospital, located in Florida - one of the states hardest struck by the virus - serves children, and I consider it a great privilege to be able to help other kids like me, as well as the doctors who help them. I hope that funds raised can be used both to buy supplies such as masks, goggles, and gowns, and, if possible, to fund emotional therapy programs for the front-line workers. "

Eric Wang and Emilia Diaz Delgado have both performed on our Notes for Nourishment concerts before, generously donating their time and talents to raise funds for a variety of nonprofits nourishing the homeless, hungry or hurting in their communities and beyond.

Eric Wang is now 16 and a 10th grader at Valley Christian High School in his hometown of San Jose, CA. He started classical guitar at age 4 and he is now studying with Robert Miller at California Conservatory of Music.
Eric is the 1st prize winner of many guitar competitions, including the prestigious  Guitar Foundation of America Guitar Competition (2018, Youth Junior Division, and 2020 Youth Senior Division!) and Parkening International Guitar Competition (2019 Youth).
He was a featured guitarist on NPR’s From the Top show just this past April.                      Recently, he became 2020 National YoungArts Finalist and participated in their prestigious events for a week in Miami (fortunately, before the lockdown), receiving the Silver Tier award.

Eric Wang has had masterclasses with many distinguished guitarists including Manuel Barrueco, David Russell, Zoran Dukic, Benjamin Verdery, the Eden-Stell Guitar Duo, Nicholas Goluses, Marcus Tardelli, Ian O’Sullivan, Montenegrian Guitar Duo and Judicael Perroy.
